Objectives of the Operational Group
The general objective of the project is to promote a national network of collaborative territorial ecosystems that reduce food loss and waste (FLW), generating value and promoting circular, community-based models with small and medium-sized agri-food producers.
Specific Objectives
- Set up and boost multi-stakeholder practice communities at national level to generate shared knowledge, identify common challenges, and facilitate collaborative solutions regarding FLW.
- Promote two collaborative and dynamic territorial ecosystems (Living Labs) in pilot regions (Catalonia and Murcia) that generate food symbiosis between actors in the agri-food system, in order to prevent and valorize surpluses to reduce FLW in different sectors.
- Co-design, develop and deploy a modular digital ecosystem that integrates the community, creates a knowledge space and a food symbiosis platform that responds to the needs of the first sector, both as a generator and a recipient.
- Activate food valorization agents trained to articulate and sustain territorial networks of food symbiosis through the development of a collaborative, replicable and sustainable business model, based on the analysis of references from other sectors and the experience in the two pilot territories.
- Establish an inclusive, transparent and participatory framework for actors (recipients, generators and valorization agents), guaranteeing democratic governance, the active participation of its members, effective collaboration and long-term sustainability of the model.
- Design and implement a transversal multi-channel communication and awareness strategy that involves key audiences (producers, citizens, administrations), that increases the recognition of food symbiosis as a strategic solution and that facilitates the visibility, appropriation and transfer of the project results at local, regional and national levels.

SIMBIORED Operational Group is formed by the following members: Fundación Espigoladors, as the representative entity, Centro Tecnológico de la Energía y del Medio Ambiente (CETENMA), as the technical coordinator, Oreka Circular Economy, Tandem Social and Coordinadora de Organizaciones de Agricultores y Ganaderos (COAG).
